The Story of Cobalt Jack

Cobalt Jack
Paul Armstrong, bass - Nancy Fenimore, vocals - Dean LaGrave, drums - Randy Bernstein, guitar

Cobalt Jack was formed around an idea. The idea was a simple one. Bring back the spirit of classic rock and blues and have A LOT of FUN doing it. Cobalt Jack originally formed in 2004.  Playing rock classics from the Stones and Zeppelin and blues classics from Muddy Waters, they worked in other rock-n-roll titles such as ‘Rock ‘n Roll’ and ‘Wild Thing’.  Soon, they established themselves as a Good Time Band.  As things evolved, Cobalt Jack became a sought after rock and blues party band, ready for anything.  They perform rock and blues classics from the late 60’s through the 90’s – all tunes that inspire mayhem and spark memories of great times in your life.

Lead singer Nancy Fenimore captivates the crowd in with her heartfelt, compelling style and riveting stage presence.  Her commanding vocals, a synthesis of both male and female artists from the likes of Robert Plant, Ann Wilson, Steve Perry, Susan Tedeschi and Steven Tyler among many others personify a ‘no-holds-barred’ attitude.  There ain’t nuthin’ she won’t sing!  Nancy sang for Status Quo denoZ, White Lie and Ticket, delivering her emotional performances since her college days.  Her infectious spirit and passion for rock and blues music will keep you coming back for more.

The rhythm section is solidified through the thundering percussion of Dean ‘Bun E’ Lagrave, the original Sharp Dressed Man!  They don’t come any nicer than Dino and damn, this man can lay it down.  Dean is a gifted drummer who started banging away on the skins at the ripe old age of 7.  He can play it all – Jazz, Blues, Fusion – you name it.  He played with Tapestry in Salt Lake (Dino in a dry town like that??!!).  Chicks dig ‘da drummers ‘ya know, especially when they’re this good!  Bun E sings some lead and backup (Chicks dig that, too!)

In 2007 Paul Armstrong blew the band away at auditions with his aggressive and ever so dead-on rhythmic style of bass playing. Paul is fun to watch as he lays down the lower end for the band in commanding style.  He’s a walking rock trivia book so if you want to know who’s played with who when, or what song is off of what album, just ask Paul.  Paul’s love for Heavy Metal music combined with his work with Supergenius and Cosmic Fate gave him his foundation and his soulful groove.  The night’s not complete if he doesn’t break a sweat.  His future’s so bright, he’s gotta wear shades!

Lead guitarist Randy Bernstein has been pluckin’ at the strings for…okay…a LOT of years!  Performing in the Denver music scene for over 30 years in bands such as Catscan, Cliché, Bad Dreams and Tube Works, he unmistakably captures the styles and tones made famous by former and current great guitar artists. Randy draws from a wide variety of influences ranging from funk to heavy metal.   You never know which of his multitude of guitars or amps he’ll show up with.  He is energetic while maintaining finesse and soul, moving from rhythm to lead with ease.  His vocals add a great element and dimension to the band.

Cobalt Jack has an infectious good-time feel about them. When the band starts to play, heads start nodding, and the dance floor begins to fill.  The band loves to rock audiences with tunes like ‘Honky Tonk Woman’, ‘Fat Bottomed Girls’, ‘Your Mama Don’t Dance’ and ‘Never Been Any Reason’. In addition, the band is extremely versatile and can slow it down with ballads like ‘Angel From Montgomery’, ‘I’m the Only One, and ‘Lights’.

Cobalt Jack’s good-time approach invariably sparks a party, which changes an ordinary evening into something extraordinary.  Cobalt Jack is prepared to elevate your evening and is available for corporate events, outdoor festivals, bars/taverns, private parties, and clubs.  For booking information, please contact Nancy Fenimore at 303-229-1347.
